Ms. Wood is a native of Central Illinois. She earned her Bachelor of Science at Illinois State University in 1990. In 1994, she received her J.D. from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law. While attending law school, Ms. Wood spent three years clerking for a private Chicago law firm, and interned with the McLean County State’s Attorneys Office during the summers of 1992 and 1993. Also during law school, she was awarded Best Brief as a Moot Court Participant in the Chicago Bar Association Competition. Upon graduation, she became an Assistant State’s Attorney in McLean County, and worked there from 1994 to 1995. While at the State’s Attorney’s Office, she was responsible for prosecuting a substantial number of misdemeanor and felony cases, and served as the lead Domestic Violence prosecutor, handing all domestic violence cases and Orders of Protection. She has been admitted to the Illinois Bar and U.S. District Court, Northern and Central Districts of Illinois since 1994.

In 1995, Ms. Wood joined Thomson & Weintraub, LLC, and has been a partner in the firm since 2001. Having practiced law for nearly 28 years, Ms. Wood has substantial litigation experience in a multitude of practice areas, specifically concentrating in the areas of Family Law, Criminal Defense, and Appellate Practice. Her success in private practice is largely due to her significant trial experience, dedication to clients, and reasonable approach to finding solutions for her clients. With an emphasis in family law, she has also been mindful of the need for families to find resolution by the most constructive and dignified means possible. Because of this, she obtained her mediation credentials from Northwestern University in 2005, and has provided family law mediation (parenting plans and financials) since that time.

Ms. Wood has been named a Leading Lawyer by her peers every year since 2011. She is an active member of the McLean County and Illinois State Bar Associations. She was also a member of the General Practice Section of the Illinois State Bar from 1995 to 1998. Ms. Wood previously served on the Board of Directors for Heartland Head Start and was Council Chair of the Family Violence Coordinating Council of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit while also Co-Chairing the McLean County Domestic Violence Task Force. She served as the President of the McLean County Bar Association from 2017-2018, and has also served on its Board of Governors. She has written various articles for the Illinois State Bar Association and has been a speaker at numerous continuing legal education seminars.

When not busy practicing law, Gina enjoys her time with her family on their small farm in rural McLean County.

“I am so very proud to have spent the majority of my career at Kraft, Wood & Kelly, LLC, helping individuals throughout Central Illinois navigate through a variety and multitude of legal issues, many of which are extremely stressful for them. My approach has been one of being candid with my clients, yet empathetic to their needs.
